Avodah
11th Grade

Avodah is a multifaceted, service-based program in which campers play an integral role in camp’s day-to-day operations. Avodahniks develop a strong work ethic and serve as Jewish role models at camp. Beyond daily activities, campers work diligently on a significant camp improvement project and march as a team in both the annual Pride Parade and AIDS Walk in San Francisco.

Counselor in Training (CIT)

Our highly-selective and popular CIT program trains our future staff and camp leadership, offering young adults a valuable personal and professional growth opportunity. Leadership workshops and Judaic programs are combined with practical hands-on training with children of all ages.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Students will be introduced to a simple engineering process based on these five steps: Imagine, Plan, Create, Improve, and Ask. Students not only learn science principles, but they will create robots that move objects, find their own way around obstacles, play soccer, respond to light or motion, navigate through a maze, and even challenge other robots. Working in pairs, students will start with simple structures and then begin to make a robot through intermediate levels of construction, proper use of blocks, motors, mainboard, IR sensors and remote control.

Student�s imaginations will soar as they discover the endless possibilities. This summer program will culminate with their own designed robot for presentation.

SUMMER CAMP JOBS:
Robot Edutainment is looking for Moms, Students, Recent Graduates, and Any Individual interested in teaching STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education in after-school programs in the Los Angeles area.

Teachers will be using robot kits to teach children in grades 3 - 6 how to assemble structures, introduction in electronics, and programming the robots in a curriculum designed to immerse children in concepts of mathematics, science, and engineering.

We surround you with a network of like-minded individuals to share ideas and a population of kids who are eager to learn from you. We also provide initial training on both how to instruct and Robotics, Computers and GUI Programming.

CAMP COUNSELOR JOB DESCRIPTION

Brief Description: Camp counselors at Pali Adventures are responsible for the physical and emotional well-being of campers. They supervise campers in a cabin setting, at mealtimes, and during activities. Counselors are in charge of facilitating activities throughout the day. Counselors work as a team to ensure all campers have a fun and memorable experience at camp. Counselors report directly to their Specialty Director and Group Leader.

QUALIFICATIONS

 Exhibit characteristics of responsibility, dependability, leadership, patience, punctuality, hard work, sense of humor, self-control, integrity, common sense, good judgment and a positive enthusiastic attitude.
 Complete the staff application and interview process.
 Attend staff training (May 30 – June 12) and all in-service trainings.
 Must have completed high school and be a minimum 18 years of age or older as of 5/30/20.
 Desire and ability to work with children.
 Other duties as assigned

Staff members are entrusted with the care and safety of young children in a rustic setting replete with natural and man-made dangers. All staff members must have the ability to respond immediately to an emergency. • Recognize and respond to the opportunities for problem solving in the group.
• The counselor is responsible for the health, safety and welfare of each camper within their cabin group and with whom they come into contact. E.g. drinking water, daily showers, teeth brushing, active supervision during rest/ down time, application of sunscreen and lip balm, appropriate attire for the activity they will be attending, etc.

• Provide opportunities for each individual to experience success during camp.
• The staff member must never leave campers unsupervised.

• Develop opportunities for positive interaction between campers and staff.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Camp Helping Hands is a service-learning camp for young children. Service-learning is often confused with community service, but they are different. While volunteerism and community service are components of the service-learning education model, service-learning emphasizes both service and learning and requires participants to use their knowledge and skills to address real-life needs in their own communities. At Camp Helping Hands, campers will achieve this goal by following the four phases of the service-learning process: investigation, planning, taking action, and reflection. When led through this collaborative process, students share and invest their ideas and skills and feel truly committed to the project and to making a difference.

Camp Helping Hands Summer Camps are offered in multiple locations throughout Ventura and Los Angeles counties and provide a fun and safe place for children ages 6 through 14 where they enjoy sports activities, games, swimming, arts and crafts, music, and more. But the real mission behind CHH is showing kids how they can make a difference and have fun doing it. Through engaging inquiry-based lessons and weekly service field trip expeditions, our campers learn leadership skills, develop compassion, and grow confident as they address real-world problems by taking action in their community.

Camp Helping Hands Summer Camps are four-week programs that provide fun and educational service-learning opportunities within several different segments of your community. Each summer program has an overarching theme, and each week of programming supports that theme. For CHH campers to receive the full benefits of service-learning, it is important to embrace this four-week approach, though one and two-week options are available. In addition to each week's service projects and field trips, CHH campers also swim, play sports activities and games, sing songs, do arts and craft projects, and much more.

CHH places campers according to age into four age groups: Junior Helpers (6 and 7), Young Advocates (8 and 9), Super Agents (10 and 11), and Chief Aides (12 and 13/14). Each group contains 15 to 17 campers and is led by three counselors who guide them through age-appropriate activities. Chief Aides, our oldest age group, are Junior Counselors-in-/training (Jr.CIT's). In addition to participating in camp activities like our younger campers, they assist team counselors and camp administration with tasks as needed.

Camp Helping Hands looks for qualified adults (18 and up) to fill our paid staff positions. Some of our paid positions are administrative, but mostly we seek to staff our Team Counselor positions. CAMP FACILITIES: Students in the overnight camps will be housed in university undergraduate housing, eat in undergraduate cafeterias and have access to university recreational facilities. Commuter students are also welcome at the overnight camps.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: An advanced class for high achieving high school students interested in pursuing a career in medicine or related fields, such as pharmacy, nursing, biomedical research or drug development. Through engaging lectures and hands-on laboratory classes, students learn about normal molecular and cellular biology from PhD-level instructors, and then learn how these normal processes are distorted to cause the development of cancer. A similar style is used to teach Molecular Neuroscience, Molecular Immunology and Molecular Biology of Development and Aging. To conclude the workshop, students use what they have learned to create an original research project on a gene of their choice. Free time includes planned activities such as sports and field trips.

Ha B. Nguyen, PharmD - Ha is a professional pharmacist who also has laboratory experience working on antibacterial immunology. She has a B.S. in Biology from the University of California, San Diego and a PharmD from Midwestern University.

Summer 2019 Molecular Biology of Cancer, Molecular Neuroscience, Molecular Immunology and Molecular Biology of Development and Aging science camps will be held at the University of California, Berkeley (6/2-6/15, 6/16-6/29), and University of California, San Diego (7/7-7/20).

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Our Story Ballet Camp is designed for students ages 3 to 5 and ages 6 to 8 to increase the love and appreciation of the art of dance while improving coordination, physical fitness, performance ability, self-esteem and discipline. CAMP FACILITIES: All trips begin at a designated airport. Students explore the most scenic and beautiful places in a particular region, and travel between activity sites in brand-new, 15-passenger vans. We spend each night in a tent, and students learn how to cook in the backcountry—with plenty of guidance from our instructors! They go backpacking, camping, whitewater rafting, rock climbing, whitewater kayaking, ziplining, ice climbing, canoeing, sea kayaking, inflatable kayaking, mountaineering, and mountain biking.

Our instructor role models:
- Average age is 27 (minimum age is 21)
- All college graduates
- At minimum, all are medically trained as wilderness first responders. However, many more have additional certifications.
- Significant experience working with teenagers in the outdoors

CAMP FACILITIES: Our camps are indoors and utilizes the space in order to rotate games and activities for the younger group and the older kids group. 40 minutes on and 15 minutes rest is the typical rotation time but down time and up time is adjusted based on activity levels of the participants and instructors.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Our sports camps (holiday, spring, summer & fall) are held at different valley locations. Get ready for some FUN! We will be learning & playing the following sports: soccer, softball, basketball, football, volleyball, dodge ball, volleyball, tennis, kickball and many more playground games!

We will be doing some arts & crafts, bouncing in our bounce house, watching movies and doing scavenger hunts, scrimmaging and more!

Approximately 5 – 6 hours of active sports each day in our clean, safe & air-conditioned 4000 sq ft PartyZone facility!

All sports equipment will be supplied. Yes, your child will be grouped with children their same age for safety reasons and also for the best learning experience.

Yes, your children will be running, jumping, playing, sweating and laughing all day and they WILL be tired at pick-up time! At B.E.S.T. your child is not just a number in hoards of children. Each is a special individual, we learn their names, their likes and dislikes, what they excel at and teach them accordingly. If, for any reason, you have any specific questions, we are always here to talk to you. We want to make your child’s summer experience the BEST one ever!

FOOD & SNACKS

Snacks: B.E.S.T. will serve fresh fruit for morning and/or afternoon snacks daily. This has been cleared as a nut free snack by all who have been concerned. We encourage you to pack one snack for half day campers and 2 snacks for full day campers if your children do not like this. Lunch: We will be eating lunch every day at 12:00pm-1:00pm. Please supply your child with a sack lunch daily with their name on the sack along with an ice pack inside if required and certainly if they are picky

A.M. HALF DAY KIDS: DO NOT NEED TO bring a LUNCH! ALL AM Kids and FULL DAY kids get fed.

Friday Lunch: Do not pack a sack lunch on Fridays! It is a special FREE PIZZA FRIDAY! FREE for all our full-day campers! Please DO supply a sack lunch if your child does not eat pizza. They will each receive 2 full slices of pizza so if they require a lot more nourishment please pack some additional food. Should half day campers want to join us they will be charged an additional $5 for this additional hour. Drinks: Water is the only beverage we supply each day. Your child’s water bottle will be replenished with bottled water throughout the day (and is always available through our water fountain) so they always remain hydrated.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: We welcome C.I.T.'s (Counselors in Training) 14-15 year olds to join us in Camp to facilitate our Senior instructors. This is an unpaid position but one to learn how to facilitate, lead and care for children in this sports camp setting.

To be safe around these gentle giants, the rider must learn about horse behavior and understand how they communicate. The Hayward La-Honda Music Camp is organized to challenge students in a variety of creative pursuits and is devoted to the development of musicianship for students grades 6-12. This is accomplished through a program of study, concentrated rehearsal, performance, recreation and general camp life.

The camp mission is to inspire young people to achieve their best musically, to enjoy a great social/recreational experience and take home memories that will last a lifetime. CAMP FACILITIES: MODERN FACILITY: Broadway Gymnastic School is a stateof-the-art gymnastics and children’s fitness facility offering all equipment used in the Olympics as well as trampolines, mini tramp, tumble trak, creative obstacle courses and the zip-line (a favorite among our campers). CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Our spectacular gymnastics and sports camp incorporates exercise and education into a fun-filled day program. Gymnastics is paired with a variety of sports, arts, drama, field trips, and an exciting array of activities captivates all ages until the camper goes home at 12:30 or 3pm. ACTIVITIES/TRIPS: Gymnastics is the foundation of our 2015 fitness day camp activities. Ball sports, swimming, arts and crafts, drama, music and dance round out the curriculum. We are also known for our educational field trips: Kid Concepts, Whale Watching, Sky Zone, Aquarium of the Pacific, California Science Center and Adventureplex.

Dance, music, art and science activities are scheduled throughout the summer. Campers get the chance to try new activities, discover new talents and gain confidence in themselves. Other special themed days include Bring- A-Friend Day, Karaoke, bounce houses, zip-lining, plus Water Days filled with water balloon activities and swimming adventures. CAMP FACILITIES: This site offers indoor dormitory sleeping in bunks with mattresses provided. Campers are grouped together by age and supervised by their counseling staff. The beautiful setting also allows for swimming, access to the Russian River, outdoor basketball court, a play area, a cozy main house lodge, a recreation and gaming room, an outdoor campfire circle, cozy places to sit and share, a crafts shack, and a wonderful Redwood chapel.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Camp Saint Francis is a week filled with programs that allow campers to explore and experience outdoor activities and create for themselves a closer connection to God and their communities.

Established in 2001, CSF moved to its new host site in 2014. This Camp Meeker location affords opportunities for activities like crafts, campfire, archery, games, sports, dance, water fun and nature hikes.

We build on themes of understanding and compassion in all of our programs, particularly in chapel, our scarf program, group games and discussions and our creative lessons and themes throughout the week.

Most of our staff are volunteers and attended camp as campers, and they are dedicated to providing a highly spirited, fun, and welcoming environment. We all strive to be good role models of the Christian way of life. We hope that our positive example and loving Christian environment promotes campers to grow spiritually.

The Scarf program, adopted from the YMCA’s ragger program, teaches campers important life skills, by taking on personal challenges and working towards overcoming them successfully. Ultimately, this helps develop lifelong tools a camper needs for personal growth. * Staff members are screened and trained in program, policies, and safety awareness. Our program is sponsored by the Episcopal Diocese of California and is welcoming and inclusive.

SUMMER CAMP JOBS:
Volunteers are welcome to apply for counseling and program activity leadership positions. As much of our focus is on outreach to lower-income families, we can only provide a stipend as budget allows. We are happy, of course, to certify eligible community service hours for students with those requirements.

CAMP FACILITIES: Our 200 acre property contains forest land, a swimming pond, activity fields and hiking trails. We have 14 cabins, a dining hall, meetinghouse and a large community garden attached to our farm lands and orchard.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Summer Camp - Ages 8-14: Campers come for 1 week or two week session (and some for 3, 4, or 5 weeks!) and go on wilderness trips. Each week there are 3 day, 2 night trips to Tahoe, the Sierra Buttes, and/or the Yuba River.

Teen Leadership Camp - Ages 15-16: These exciting programs takes the Summer Camp experience to a whole new level for 15 and 16 year olds: We offer a two-week hiking program, a one-week farming and cooking program, and a two-week bike repair and bike touring program.

Hiking Program (Two weeks): TLCers will spend two days bonding, learning about their trip, and preparing for hiking. They and their trip leaders will then embark on a 10-day backpacking trip along the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). They will then return to camp, and will have two days of closure at the end.

Farming & Cooking Program (One week): TLCers will spend their week working in Woolman's organic garden, learning about farming, plants and the farm to table journeys of the food we eat. They will learn nutrition and cooking skills as they prepare many of their meals with the fruits and vegetables harvested.

Each week has a unique focus, and some themed activities, but also will include many of the fun things kids look forward to who come for multiple weeks.

Example activities include herding, leather tooling, sack races, charades, songs & stories, cowboy vests, croquet, boot craft, Western dancing, tissue paper flowers, tin punch lanterns, making adobe, and mud pies.

The camp is staffed by trained teenage volunteers who have an established involvement with the Rancho, and who are supervised by Dr. Meighan Maguire, PhD in Communications from UCSD.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Levels: There will be four levels at the camp: MathCounts/AMC-8, AMC10/12, AIME, and USAMO.

Curriculum: Each week will be devoted to one of the four main areas. The focus will be on Number Theory and Algebra/Analysis in Period-I and Geometry and Combinatorics in Period-II.

The students will be equipped with necessary background in lectures and trained with different types of problems to master various problem solving techniques. The classes are problem solving-based whose curriculum is aligned with prestigious national and international competitions. They provide a motivational and challenging environment for students.

Lectures are given by A* Faculty and other instructors who have participation and/or training experience in national/international Olympiads such as USA Math Olympiads (USAMO) and the International Math Olympiads (IMO).

CLASS - Rec. Groov 3 Adults Tues. 7:00-8:00 PM 7/14-8/4 - GROOV3 is the latest blood-pulsing, beat-dropping, bass-pumping dance class from LA. We're fitness out-of-the-box — where you DANCE, SWEAT, & LIVE far beyond your workout. Our mission is to inspire change and build a global community through the power of dance, supporting the idea that dance should be accessible to all.

CLASS - Rec Floor Gym 7-12yrs. Thurs 5:15-6:00 PM 7/16-8/6 - This class is for both beginners and advanced beginners. Students will be taught rolls, cartwheels, handstands, round-offs, and backbends as they progress in each skill.

CLASS - Rec Gymsters 3.5 - 7 yrs. Thurs. 4:30-5:15 pm - 7/16-8/6 - Participants begin to develop coordination and body awareness in this class. Emphasis is on learning in a fun and challenging environment. Balance beam and tumbling skills will be introduced.

Dance Campers = Students will spend their week long camp full of song, dance and crafts! Campers will learn dances, songs, and create props based on a summer dance theme. Proper dance attire (Tap and ballet shoes) are encouraged. This twice a week session greatly enhances the learning experience and serves as a good introduction to the preschool environment. A special performance will be held at the end of each session.

CAMP FACILITIES: Cedar Lake has various bunkhouses and lodges. We can accommodate multiple groups at one time, and have a 290 camper maximum capacity.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Cedar Lake does not facilitate programs, but works with each group to ensure their program goes smoothly.

Cedar Lake Camp also offers many activities for groups including canoeing, swimming, hiking, volleyball, basketball, campfires, disc golf and an exceptional challenge course.

Facilities include an outdoor amphitheater and first-rate meeting hall with movie screen and audio/visual equipment. Lodging options include lodges, bunkhouses and cottages - all in a beautiful mountain setting.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: We only accept serious players with previous competitive soccer experience. Every year talented players attend our camps and challenge each other to the limit, growing in skill and experience. A number of our campers have experienced training trials with professional clubs in Holland. Our programs are designed to help players achieve their maximum potential through progressive exercises that are individually challenging, as well as appropriate to the age and ability of each player.

We fly in our coaches directly from the Netherlands. They are not merely coaches: they are also teachers. Many of our coaches have graduated from a four- year CIOS College. At the Central Institution of Sports, coaches not only received their coaching licenses from the global leader in soccer development: KNVB (Royal Dutch Soccer Federation) but also learn how to work with, encourage and incentivize young athletes. CAMP FACILITIES: We have three riding arenas, goats, pig, mini donkey and lots of wonderful horses

CAMP FACILITIES: Parents use their local pool to supervise kid's stroke drills and video them underwater so they can see and correct their stroke.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Since 1985, the only swim camps that teach parents how to teach their kids to swim like World Record holders using a smartphone underwater video camera. Our swimmers have won 43 Gold Medals, state and national championships, and have set 11 World Records.

Computer analysis of our swimmers at Colorado Springs showed that they doubled their peak hand force output in just five days. Dryland and Pool sessions are 3 hours each and include underwater videotaping and special drills to improve stroke efficiency. Most freestylers cut their stroke count in half. Each camp is a total of 30 hours.

Dryland sessions include stroke, strength and flexibility analysis, Microfiber Reduction to increase flexibility beyond what stretching alone can do, and stretches and strength training exercises. Each swimmer receives a 2500 yard workout to do at home after the camp, and a Somax Powerbelt to increase the strength and speed of hip rotation. Parents report improved school grades after chest expansion is doubled.

YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: We have year-round individual programs for golf, tennis, running, soccer, baseball, football, and basketball which improve performance far beyond coaching and strength/endurance training. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: YEA is a unique and inspiring leadership summer camp for youth 12-17 who care about community service, activism and social justice. This week-long sleep-away program is designed to be a fun and transforming experience that builds life-long friendships between youth with similar interests. YEA Camp New York will have two concurrent sessions! One session for teens with a variety of causes, and for the first time ever, a separate session for teens interested in animal activism (and what better location than a Farm Animal Sanctuary!).

Our program also provides a meaningful opportunity for campers to learn more about some of the issues facing our planet and to get inspired and empowered to take action on those issues. Campers choose an issue of importance to them (for example, some have chosen climate change, racism, homophobia, homelessness, animal rights) and at YEA they build the knowledge, skills, confidence, and community to take action on that issue long after camp is over. Youth who have participated in our programs report that the camp was one of the most fun, rewarding and life-changing experiences they have had, and, with YEA's community support, have gone on to start school clubs, plan fundraisers for nonprofits, organize community clean-ups, and attend hearings to comment about important community issues.
